Exodus 3:14 - I AM
God refers to himself as the I AM.
God said to Moses, "I am who I am . [ b ] This is what you are to say to the Israelites: 'I AM has sent me to you.' "
John 8:12 - Light of the World
While Jesus was on the earth, he referred to himself as "the Light of the World"
Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, "I am the Light of the World; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of Life"
Our hope is that he is the Risen Saviour , who triumphed over death and was resurrected!
Rev 1:8 -The Alpha and Omega God refers to himself as the first, the last, and the one to come.
"I am the Alpha and Omega," says the Lord God, "who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty."
Rev 19:16 - King of Kings, Lord of Lords When he comes again, his name will be written on his thigh.
On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.
This cross is designed to reflect on the Hope that we have in the coming of our Risen Saviour. He will return again!
This piece combines the use of two materials: metal and wood. The wood is intended to symbolize the wooden crucifix, upon which Jesus died. The wood is distressed with marks, scratches, dents and burned areas. This represents the emotion of the event.
The metal represents the timeline of influence of Jesus Christ. His life was from beginning to the end. From the great IAM to the King of Kings, he was, is, and ever will be. He will come again and we should Hope in this!
The process of making this cross is was interesting experience. The wood is distressed to look "old". It is intended to look like it was part of a wooden cross. It was burned and scraped to represent the cruel process of the crucifixion. As I performed this process of distressing, I couldn't help but reflect on the period of history that this actually represents. What must it have been like for the men who built the wooden crosses? What must have been going through their minds as they witnessed people being crucified on the crosses? What was the thinking of the man that made Jesus' cross? Was he hoping in the resurrected Christ? Was he doubting the relevancy of this man?
It is my desire that the testimony of this piece will cause others to think about the Lord Jesus Christ.
